Seismic Constraint
After being quarantined for upwards of 6 months, I wanted to explore the notion of being imprisoned, or physically detained in unnatural confinement. With unnatural confinement comes a fierce desperation—one that can only be born of violently suppressive conditions, resulting in severe discomfort.
Moreover, as a physical emblem of unity—tying two pieces of virtually anything together—it felt like both a clever and a timely element to include knots throughout my design, considering our shared experiences despite uniquely different locations. I accentuated the pitch of the shoe to evoke the sharp pin we have been so rudely confronted with this year. Ultimately, this design is my zeitgeist: a response to the dark uncertainty of global society, and what the COVID, environmental, and racial pandemic will bring to us in the future.
